TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS
Transactional Analysis (TA) is a highly effective method for enhancing your relationships, whether with yourself, and/or with others. Developed during the 1960's by Dr. Eric Berne, (TA) is a model of people and relationships. It is based on the three parts to our personality, ‘Ego-States’, which converse with one another in ‘transactions,’ (hence the name).
People can interact from one of the three Ego-States: Parent, Adult, and Child. These interactions can act at an overt or covert level. Each one of the Ego-States can be viewed as a ‘mind module', per-se, a system of communication with its own language and function.
PARENT EGO STATE is a language of values, commands, (“should”), The ADULT EGO STATE is the language of logic and rationality (I Know), The CHILD EGO STATE is the language of spontaneous emotions (positive and negative), joyful vs. I can't. All three Ego States must be intact, balanced and available so that the individual can effectively function in the world.
TA has wide applications in a variety of fields, from the clinical, business, to the social and inter-personal fields, and more. For example, you can use your knowledge of Ego-States in social situations to create effective and powerful communication. Your words, voice tone, body posture and emotional state are keys to letting you know which Ego State you or your listener is currently in.
